Bringing Peace, Power & Light to Rural Rwanda

The purpose for PEACE Power & Light begins in rural Rwanda, where the people rebuild after a period of genocide and insecurity. In many ways, the story of Rwanda is remarkable for the progress regarding peace and development which has followed the darkest of times in 1994. Churches and missionary organizations are working together with the government and international community to achieve a partnership with a holistic vision for growth and development.

Vision Statement

The vision of PEACE Power & Light—Rwanda is to bring peace, power, and light to the people of rural Rwanda through sustainable energy projects, health and education initiatives in the regions served by these projects. We hope for both tangible peace, power and light, as well as the true peace, power and light which arrive as fruits of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Mission Statement

The mission of PEACE Power & Light—Rwanda is to encourage existing initiatives in the region for health, education and sustainable energy development. This will include support of Shyira Hospital, CEFOPS (Centre de Formation Polytechnique de Shyira, the church-run trade school), Centre Scolaire and Groupe Scolaire de Shyira, the mixed church/public primary and secondary schools on the hill, and assistance with the development of AMAHORO (“Amahoro” means peace in Kinyarwanda, the language of the people of Rwanda) ENERGY, S.A., a local company to develop hydro-electric sites in the region. A more detailed discussion of Amahoro Energy, S.A. follows. Other energy projects may include bio-gas production for the hospital and local schools, biodiesel production through Jatropha plantation, and solar hot water for hospital and schools.
